Let’s Celebrate!

Hello friends. It’s been awhile since my last blog entry but I’ve experienced a lot of “life happens” since February. The good news is that our health challenges are being overcome and my wife and I are looking forward to a healthy and active fall. Yes, that means a summer spent healing and recuperating, but it’s a small price to pay. Without boring you with details, it’s suffice to say that getting older isn’t always fun, and our joints and bones have ways of paying us back for our youthful exuberance and indiscretions. In my case, a badly broken heal and ankle some 25 years ago has morphed into arthritic ankle joints and bone spurs. Oh if only I had not climbed up on the roof that day!

I’ve also been hard at work on “Aneni: A Gaia Origin Novella” that, if all goes according to plan, will be out by summer’s end. It takes place twenty years before Restoration and it begins on the day that Aneni is “born”, which for an AI means being given access to all the computer hardware she needs to grow, learn, and evolve.

Without giving too much away: Dylan and Lily have travelled to Hades One (a space station orbiting Mars) to greet Telogene’s newest AI creation. What’s supposed to be a routine trip soon goes sideways when an unfortunate event occurs on the station (No, I’m not telling you. It’s a surprise!). What was supposed to be a time of measured testing, learning, and development for Aneni quickly turns into a trial by fire.

Aneni struggles at first, our world is, after all, completely new to her, but it doesn’t take long for her to discover the full extent of her abilities. The question, as always seems to be the case with Aneni, is: Will she do as her creators ask, or will she do things her way? The answer may surprise you!

If you’ve already read Revival, then Aneni should give you some good insight into how and why she treats the colonists the way she does. If you haven’t read Restoration or Revival, then Aneni will be a good introduction to the “The Gaia Origin Series”. Not only will you get to learn a lot about Aneni, but you’ll also have a chance to meet some of the other main characters in the series long before their lives become inextricably linked in Restoration.

To celebrate this time of healing and rejuvenation (and the fact that May is my birth-month), I’m putting my ebooks on sale for just 99 cents for the next ten days. If you haven’t read them already, now is a great time to download a copy for those warm summer days you’ll (hopefully) spend relaxing by the lake, beach, or pool.

Until next time, thanks for reading!

PS. Aneni wasn’t always called by that name. You’ll have to read the novella though if you want to find out how and why she came to be called “Aneni”! (Hint: It’s a Shona word that means “God is with me”.)
